Jon will open the workshop by sharing his experience making street photographs — discussing process, intuition, and storytelling through images. Using material from his zine Water for Wildflowers along with recent, unpublished work, he’ll invite conversation about visual narrative and how photography can serve as poetic metaphor.
On Friday, participants will have the opportunity to share their own photographs for constructive critique and introduce their personal approach to image-making.
Saturday will focus on photographing in the streets, with a midday break to pause, reset, and reflect before returning to shoot.
Sunday will be a final group critique where students may share images from the workshop or other projects. There may be time set aside for a photo walk depending on student preferences.
Topics covered in this workshop will include:
“Hearing the Music”
The language of storytelling
Purposeful wandering or gathering through stillness
Saying “Yes” to gifts
Camera tips and tricks
Making chance a friend
Sketching for success
